Border Patrol Agents Discover $87,000 Worth Of Meth In Smuggler’s Gas Tank

SALTON CITY, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents working at the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint arrested a man suspected of smuggling narcotics Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:50 p.m., when a 25-year-old man driving a silver 2010 Chevrolet Malibu approached the checkpoint. A Border Patrol K-9 detection team alerted to the vehicle in the primary inspection lane. Agents directed the vehicle to enter the secondary inspection area for further investigation.

While in secondary inspection, Border Patrol agents searched the rear area and the gas tank of vehicle. The search of the gas tank revealed several packages hidden inside. Agents tested a white crystal like substance from inside the packages once they were removed from the gas tank. The substance tested positive for the characteristics of methamphetamine.

The total weight of the methamphetamine discovered was approximately 37.67 pounds with an estimated value of $87,758.

The man, a United States citizen, the narcotics and vehicle were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Border Patrol Agents Nab Suspect In DC Area Homicide Case

LAS CRUCES, N.M – A man being sought on a Fairfax County, Virginia homicide warrant is now in custody. U.S. Border Patrol agents working at the Interstate 25 checkpoint north of Las Cruces apprehended 20-year-old Salvadorian national Abel Alexander Castro Juarez July 31.

The apprehension was made when a commercial bus traveling north arrived at the checkpoint at approximately 10 p.m. U.S. Border Patrols agents performing an immigration inspection of all passengers located a man attempting to conceal himself in the restroom.

Agents queried the man and found that he had an active warrant issued on July 24, 2020 from the Fairfax County Police in the State of Virginia for homicide. He was turned over to the New Mexico State Police.

Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Seizes More Than $3M Worth Of Meth & Marijuana

EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector interdict three drug smuggling attempts.

Yesterday, Rio Grande Valley Sector agents working near La Casita, Texas, observed a truck leave the Rio Grande at a high rate of speed. As the agents attempted to stop the truck, the driver suddenly pulled over and ran into a nearby field. The driver led agents on a short foot pursuit before being taken into custody. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of more than 70 pounds of methamphetamine worth an estimated $2.3M. Border Patrol turned the case over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Moments later, agents responded to a residence in Falcon Heights after receiving information of suspected drug smuggling activity. As agents arrived, they observed multiple subjects removing bundles of suspected narcotics from a truck. Upon seeing the agents, the men abandoned the bundles and ran into the nearby brush. After searching the immediate area, agents seized 67 bundles of marijuana weighing over 730 pounds, worth an estimated $585K. Border Patrol turned the vehicle and drugs over to the Starr County Sheriff’s Office.

A short while later, Fort Brown agents responded to report of three drug smugglers walking north of the Rio Grande near Brownsville, Texas. With the assistance of a CBP Air and Marine Operations air asset, agents arrested three Mexican nationals and the seized more than 73 pounds of marijuana, worth nearly $59K.

Border Patrol processed the subjects and cases accordingly.
